In 2009, our daughter was on the edge of teenagerhood.
We traveled as a family to New York for a few days and took a tour of the NBC studio. Upon entering the tour, you are, of course, required to leave all belongings in a locker. So no picture taking. We proceeded on our tour by getting on an elevator with a young gentleman who entered with us. Our daughter looked at the young man with her mouth agape, and he waved at her.
The young man left the elevator, and we continued to our floor. The tour guide said, ” Does anyone recognize the celebrity who was on the elevator with us?” Our daughter, who might have been holding her breath, said, “That’s Zac Efron!”
Sometimes cool things are right in front of us, and we don’t see them. We get so caught up in our daily routines—checking off to-do lists, rushing from meeting to meeting—that we miss the amazing opportunities and moments happening around us. That’s why we need to step away from time to time.
It’s summer—take a vacation! When we take time to rewind and recharge our batteries, we return with fresh eyes and renewed energy. We notice things we’ve been missing, whether it’s a solution to a persistent problem, a team member’s hidden talents, or new possibilities for our business.
