As many know, we had a dog, Jada, who passed a few years ago. Hubby and I decided to get a dog one day, but one day wasn’t defined, and we had a lot of “stuff” we wanted to do before we got a dog.
But I was on Facebook about a month ago, and this cute little rescue dog appeared on my feed. I looked into this dog’s eyes, and I saw Jada. I wanted that dog. Is reincarnation real? Now, this dog clearly wasn’t Jada. So, I needed to keep my wits about me to ensure I didn’t transfer my love for Jada to Chloe without knowing her. So, hubby and I made a visit to meet with her, and well, we now have a 2-year-old rescue dog.
In the HR world, we call this transference of feelings the halo effect. In essence, when we’re interviewing candidates, it’s critical that we don’t hire people who simply remind us of others. Or, in this case, we don’t adopt a dog, believing she is the reincarnation of our dearly departed pet.
