Valerie joined The HR Team in 2022. She has 10 years of experience working with small to mid-size for-profit and not-for-profit organizations focusing on recruitment, employee relations, benefits, HRIS, compliance, training, and employee engagement.
Before joining The HR Team, Valerie worked as the Director of Human Resources for a non-profit dual-diagnosis addiction treatment center with two locations in Maryland. When she was not supporting a staff of 120+, she focused her time on developing an efficient and up-to-date department by implementing an HRIS that would automate processes for onboarding, payroll, and time and attendance. She also worked closely with management to ensure staffing needs were met, employee concerns were investigated, policies were useful, and appropriate guidance was given. A proud moment for Valerie was creating and delivering her company’s first in-house training program.
Prior to that, Valerie worked as a generalist at a private equity-backed dermatology practice that grew from 10 locations to more than 40 locations within a few years. Aside from handling the day-to-day ongoing Human Resources Management, Valerie focused her time implementing an HRIS that could handle the workload of the rapidly growing company. She also assisted managers with onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and employee recognition.
Valerie earned her Bachelor of Science in Family and Human Services from Towson University. She also earned credits towards her master’s degree from McDaniel College in Human Resource Development. Valerie holds her certification as a Certified Professional (SHRM-CP). She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Chesapeake Human Resources Association (CHRA).
